Name

MAX

Synopsis

Use MAX to return the largest value in a list of numeric values. When you use this function, cells containing logical values, error values, or text (except for text that represents a numeric value), or cells that are empty are ignored.

To Calculate

=MAX(Number1, Number2, ...)

There must be at least one Number argument specified for the function.

Example

Figure 15-28 compares the results of MAX and MAXA when used to compare a list of values. Since MAXA converts the logical value of TRUE to 1 it returns that value as the largest value.

MAX finds the largest numeric value and MAXA finds the largest value by comparing numeric and non-numeric values
