It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Managing by the Numbers
As noted earlier, Six Sigma calls management by the numbers "data-driven decision making." This project management tool has at its core an array of mechanisms for gathering and categorizing data. Budget control in Hollywood is almost a paint-by-numbers activity. The tracking and reporting mechanisms are well set into place. Tools like Six Sigma use the same approach, and IT projects will be well served by use of a similar approach.
