Born 1945 to 1964, they are 78 million strong, in a nice bell-shaped curve with its peak in 1957 to 1961. This peak defines markets—what will sell and what will not sell. The Boomers’ peak is now cresting at fifty years old, an age when consumption traditionally begins to fall off precipitously. (However, if you have something to sell, don’t count them out!)
They fought against the “system”—learning to defy authority and not follow the rules set down for them by others.
They helped accomplish great social change through the civil rights movement, the women’s fight for equality, and anti-war protests.
Many Boomers participated in the sexual revolution and the drug culture (at least smoked marijuana).
