The clear solution to this dramatic labor issue is the redeployment of a wonderful labor resource: the unemployed Baby Boomer. You see, a lot of very qualified Baby Boomers are victims of outsourcing, downsizing, right-sizing, and layoffs. They are easy targets. They are highly paid and have a lot of vacation time. They know “where the bodies are buried.” Out they go. Costs are cut.
But no one bothered to analyze the available workforce to ensure that the young Xers could replace exiting Boomers. And the fact is the younger Xers can’t replace the Boomers because there simply aren’t enough of those Xers to go around.
