It’s a sad commentary on how we aren’t doing the math. But don’t be too sad. For every ten jobs the Boomers leave behind, there’ll be only nine people to fill them. So Xers will have their pick of the best jobs. Furthermore, 50 percent of Xers are college-educated, compared with 25 percent of the Boomers. And Gen X has the potential for producing a higher percentage of top-caliber professionals. This is a qualitative issue.
Pound for pound, this team of nine could be the better set of players, but it will forever be plagued by its diminutive size compared to the Boomers.
Oddly, many companies will actually benefit by attracting, recruiting, and retaining Generation X employees because the process will be very competitive. ...
