Follow the Money: A Transfer of Wealth and Power

The GI Generation saved money, perhaps because of the scare put into them by the Great Depression. Today, less than five million people are still alive from that generation. They represent a hardy 7 percent of the original seventy million.

This hardy remainder of the GI Generation, and the Silent Generation after it, holds the bulk of the nation’s personal wealth. During the time those five million survivors of the GI Generation have left here on earth, the remainder of almost $10 trillion will pass from one generation to another. Boomers will get most of it. They may also assume positions of power on corporate board seats vacated by their mothers, fathers, and rich relatives.
