Holmes County, Ohio, may be one of the healthiest communities in the United States. A study done from 1996 to 2003 on more than half of the residents in that county found that the cancer rate was an amazing 72 percent lower than the national average.[1] Another study found that a similar group had almost no cases of heart problems or diabetes and practically no obesity-related issues.[2] But the population used for these studies was not random—all of the participants were Amish.
