Treating Headache Symptoms
Dim the lights, lie down, close your eyes, and try to relax. That’s the best way to treat a headache, because it has no side effects and won’t cause a rebound headache. If possible, place a cool wet towel on your forehead. Despite its simplicity, this strategy has proven to be effective.[82]
Other studies have found that relaxation techniques such as mediation, tai chi, and yoga are effective at relieving headaches.[83][84] Some individuals prefer to do mild exercises at the onset of a headache—although this likely masks the pain until it can subside rather than actually reducing it.
