Ernest Hemingway was not a healthy person. He suffered from severe headaches, high blood pressure, weight problems, and eventually diabetes. Hemingway was also a notoriously heavy drinker, which probably contributed to his liver disease. If there is a model of health that you should not follow, it’s Hemingway’s life.
Yet Hemingway worked from a standing desk for most of his career. He discovered the concept while visiting his editor at Charles Scribner’s Sons and fashioned his own desk from a bookcase in his bedroom. Hemingway had a traditional desk, but it served more as storage than anything else.
