Understanding the Dimensions of Fitness
If you went to grade school in the United States, it’s likely that you participated in the Presidential Physical Fitness Test. At the very least, you might remember seeing the Terminator (Arnold Schwarzenegger) shaking hands with President George H.W. Bush after being appointed chairman of the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition (PCFSN).[162] The PCFSN was founded by President Dwight Eisenhower after Dr. Hans Kraus, who we discussed in Chapter 6, Preventing Back Pain, sounded the alarm about the poor state of youth fitness in the United States.[163]
