As a high-school wrestler, I had some unusual eating habits. I weighed my food, ate raw potatoes, and kept my portions very small. But things got really strange in my senior year when I lost a spot on the varsity team to a talented young sophomore. To stay on the squad, I had to cut 25 pounds (11 kg) and compete in the 135-pound (61 kg) weight division. Within a month I had shed more than fifteen percent of my body mass.
I did well at first and even won an important match against a state finalist from the previous year. But 135 pounds was not a natural weight for me and I struggled to maintain it.
