I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

Remember your first impression
I remember someone I took on at work. She ticked all the right boxes – she was friendly, outgoing, qualified, experienced, keen. All the characteristics I was looking for. There was something about her that niggled, mind you. Just a vague feeling in the back of my mind that she was a tricky, demanding type. There was absolutely nothing concrete to back it up though, and she was by far the most suitable applicant for the job, so she got it.
Her first day at work she asked to change desks. There was another free desk anyway – the one she was asking to switch to – so I agreed. Slightly reluctantly, because again I had that niggle that she was asking as a kind of test of the boundaries, but she had a logical ...
