Nearly every story structure used in the West revolves around conflict, typically introduced early in the story, resulting in some level of transformation. This twist on story structure offers an alternative.
Kishōtenketsu is Japanese but closely aligns with qǎ chéng zhuǎn hé from China, where this structure originated. It is referred to as gi seung jeon gyeol in Korea. They all subscribe to a four-act structure that does not necessitate conflict, something Western audiences are not accustomed to.
