Getting started

We undertake research to learn more about the business, the customer, and the technology so we can remove uncertainty and unknowing from our thinking. We want to learn just enough, just in time. How we go about this will depend upon the time and resources you have to hand. In the same way that every product is different, and every team is different, so the process will be different. It’s hard to mandate a cookie-cutter methodology. You’ll have to feel your way around. Before we get into the details of discovery, there a few principles worth spelling out:

• Do it only if it will make a difference.

• Do just enough and no more.

• Iterate, iterate, iterate.
