Chapter 7

How to do your homework on the organisation and the job

Find out what you can about the job, the organisation, its products or services. There are two main reasons for doing this. First, the organisation will expect you to know what kind of organisation you’d be joining and also know something about their products or services. They want to know that you have a genuine interest in them and also that you’re prepared to do some work! Second, your research should confirm to you what a good organisation you’d be joining and increase your motivation and interest in the job (or, conversely, you may discover something about the organisation that puts you off and makes you decide that you don’t want to progress with your application).
