So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Knowing the Devices Out There
To know the screen sizes and other differences between the various devices that run Android, it’s a good idea to regularly look at http://developer.android.com/about/dashboards/index.html. This site contains statistics, updated often, about the devices that have accessed the Google Play store (see Figure 6.1). In September 2013 the statistics show the following.
28 percent of devices use Gingerbread.
21 percent use Ice Cream Sandwich.
49 percent use Jelly Bean.
80 percent have a Normal screen size.
