As Android determines the location via several methods, how do you know which method it is using? By turning on and off Wi-Fi or GPS, you can determine that and also work out how accurate users’ devices are in their current location. Accuracy will vary from device to device and location to location.
1. Go to Settings on your device, and turn Wi-Fi off.
2. Run the application, and navigate to the maps activity. Look at the initial accuracy of the location information. It is likely to be in the range of 500 to 1,000 meters. This is because the device is using the cell tower to determine its location.
3. Go to Settings, and turn Wi-Fi back on.
