Although testing in the Android emulator is useful, you must test your application on multiple devices to check that it behaves correctly for a wide audience. When correctly coded, Android apps can deal with a lot of variation in devices, but with widely different OS versions, screen sizes, and processor capabilities, you may not be able to pick up everything. Testing on real devices may showcase performance or other issues that you were not aware of.
Here’s a good set of devices to test with.
A low-specification small screen (mdpi or hdpi) phone running Gingerbread.
