We aimed to make the salesforce.com service similar to the consumer Web sites that people had already embraced. We wanted customers to love to use the Salesforce application, so we started by giving them something they were familiar with: tabs across the top of a Web page. Initially, as I saw in my dream, we had five tabs: Contacts, Accounts, Opportunities, Forecasts, and Reports. These tabs represented the five things that our company did. The application was much simpler than the existing enterprise software packages, but even without all the bells and whistles, it enabled customers to turn opportunities into deals.
