We made a significant leap in the technology when we offered integration capabilities by providing an application programming interface (API), or a way for salesforce.com to communicate with other programs. This transformed our product and technology so that the data in salesforce.com were not isolated in Web silos, but could interact with other data that were behind the firewall or on other Web sites.
