The decision to give 1 percent of our profits in the form of product donation wasn't our idea. It came directly from requests from nonprofits. Less than six months after we officially launched our company, we got a call from a group of students at Business Today, the largest student-run magazine in the nation. The nonprofit, originally started in 1968 by three Princeton undergrads (including Steve Forbes) and run each year by a new team of graduating seniors, asked us for a free subscription to salesforce.com. They were in search of a way to manage their data amid the constant management changes, and thought salesforce.com might be the answer.
