Working closely with neurologists, optical scientists have identi-
ed an unlled niche application for DCS–NIRS hybrid approach
as a bedside monitor in neurointensive care units for adults. To
this end, we have studied the responses of a cohort of acute isch-
emic stroke patients (Durduran et al. 2009b) and TBI patients
(Kim et al. 2010). In TBI patients, we have validated DCS against
portable xenon-CT (Kim et al. 2008) and demonstrated good
agreement with invasive measurements of intracranial pressure,
