19.1 Introduction
In this chapter, we discuss the principles of diuse optical
tomography (DOT) imaging using continuous wave (CW) and
frequency domain (FD) measurement systems. Section 19.2
describes the instruments and imaging congurations com-
monly used for acquiring CW and FD data. e numerical
approaches to transforming the measured data into meaning-
ful images in tissue are also discussed in Section 19.2, and the
importance of resolving the spectral content of the reemitted
light to extract physiologically relevant parameters is described.
