Analytical solutions to the diusion equation have been

used to describe uorescent light propagation in tissue such as

the breast (Hyde et al. 2001, Nair et al. 2002). Nair et al. and

Hyde et al. used both reectance and uorescence measure-

ments to extract intrinsic uorescence from tissue. Nair et al.

analyzed intrinsic uorescence spectra at radial distances from

the source while Hyde et al. analyzed uorophore concentration

versus depth in a layered tissue. It is important to note that these

boundary value problems are highly dependent on illumination/

collection geometry.
