Synopsis
- Configure my Mac to receive faxes?
System Preferences→Print & Fax→Faxing→select the checkbox next to “Receive faxes on this computer”
- Set my computer’s fax number?
System Preferences→Print & Fax→Faxing→enter the phone number of the line that’s connected to your Mac in the “My Fax Number” text field
- Have incoming faxes print on my printer?
System Preferences→Print & Fax→Faxing→select the checkbox next to “Print on Printer”→select a printer from the pop-up menu
- Specify the number of rings before my Mac picks up the line to receive a fax?

- Specify where incoming faxes are saved to?
System Preferences→Print & Fax→Faxing→When a Fax Arrives→Save to→select either Faxes (
~/Faxes
), Shared Faxes (/Users/Shared/Faxes
), or choose another folder where you’d like them saved to
Tip
Unfortunately, Mac OS X doesn’t alert you when there is an incoming fax; instead, you need to check the folder to which you want faxes saved if you think one may have arrived.
To solve this oversight, you can download and install the Fax Alert script, created by Rainer Brockerhoff (http://www.brockerhoff.net/fai/index.html). Once installed, this Folder Action script pops open a dialog window to let you know when a fax is received in the folder you specify.
