Tableau ist nicht Excel. Excel ist nicht Tableau. Eines der häufigsten Hindernisse für die Einführung von Tableau ist der Glaube, dass sich ähnliche Datenvisualisierungen in Excel einfacher erstellen lassen. Das mag für bestimmte Situationen zutreffen, aber wenn du die Kunst des datengesteuerten Storytellings beherrschen willst, musst du die Stärken jeder Software einzeln nutzen. Ich verwende Tableau nicht, um meine Datensätze zu erstellen und zu speichern. Es ist zwar möglich, aber allein der Gedanke daran lässt mich vor Frustration erschaudern. Das ist nicht das, was Tableau am besten kann. Auf der anderen Seite versuche ich auch nicht, mit Excel schöne, interaktive Dashboards zu erstellen. Ich bin mir sicher, dass man das mit etwas Fleiß schaffen könnte, aber allein die Begrenzung auf eine Million Zeilen in Excel macht diese Lösung in den visuellen Analyseprojekten auf Unternehmensebene, an denen ich arbeite, unmöglich. Dafür wurde Excel nicht entwickelt.
Und das ist gut so!
Ich liebe beide Programme und benutze sie fast jeden Tag, aber aus unterschiedlichen Gründen. Wenn es das Ziel von Tableau wäre, Excel zu ersetzen, würde Excel nicht zu den primären Verbindungstypen gehören, die in der Software verfügbar sind.
