In the introduction to this chapter, I mentioned that there are no less than three specifications on the table for an XML vector graphics solution. The following are the three XML vocabularies, along with the primary companies that are backing them:
Precision Graphics Markup Language (PGML)—Adobe
Vector Markup Language (VML)—Microsoft
Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG)—Adobe
You might wonder why Adobe would have two different XML vocabularies for vector graphics. The reason is that PGML, their initial offering, is based upon Adobe's PostScript imaging model.
