How it works...
When you create a computer object, an actual device can attach to it when it is domain-joined. This way, the location of the computer object, and any settings that you want the object to have, can be preconfigured. When a device is joined with the same hostname as the computer name, the computer object is attached too.
When the computer name is over 15 characters, the pre-Windows 2000 computer name is truncated to only use the first 15 characters, by default. It might be a good idea to change the computer name when the data that makes the computer object unique in the Active Directory context is part of the last part of the computer name.
