It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Managing subnets
Subnets define logical network segments to Active Directory. Based on the subnet, a device will contact the domain controllers in the right site. There might be domain controllers in the same site as the device, but depending on the costs of the site links, devices might also look for domain controllers in other sites.
