How it works...

In every Active Directory site, one domain controller is dynamically assigned to the ISTG. Its role is to automatically create the inter-site connection objects between the bridgehead server in its respective Active Directory site and bridgehead servers in other Active Directory sites.

While you can disable the ISTG and create inter-site connection objects manually, it is highly recommended to let the ISTG create the connection objects based on the Active Directory sites, Active Directory site links and bridgehead servers.
