It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

Proper demotion of a domain controller will remove all of the references to the domain controller from Active Directory.
However, it is recommended practice to check the following tools manually after demotion:
- DNS: (dnsmgmt.msc)
- Active Directory Sites and Services: (dssite.msc)
