の機能
IDSはすべて2クラス分類器と呼ばれる種類のエキスパートシステムである。分類器はデータを読
み込み、2つのカテゴリにいずれかに分類する。データは、正常でそれ以上の処理は必要ないか、攻
撃の特徴を示しているかのどちらかである。攻撃の場合は、システムは指定通りに対応する。イベ
ントセンサーならイベントを作成し、コントローラならトラフィックをブロックするなどである。
IDSシステムは、NetFlowなどの受動的センサーとは異なる方法でデータを解釈する。簡単なセ
ンサーは監視したすべてを報告するが、IDSは報告するように設定されたイベントだけを報告する。
IDSには、解釈に使うデータと判断に使う処理によって、さまざまなものがある。
分類にはいくつかの問題がある。ここでは道徳的問題、統計的問題、挙動的問題と呼ぶ。道徳的
問題は、攻撃が無害な、場合によっては明示的に許されたユーザの活動と区別できな
い場合がある
ことだ。例えば、DDoS攻撃とフラッシュクラウドは、ある程度時間が経過するまで同じように見え
る場合がある。統計的問題とは、IDSシステムは1 日に膨大な数のテストを行うため、偽陽性（false
positive）率が低くても、1 ヶ月の真陽性（true positive）よりも1日の偽陽性がはるかに多くなる可能
性があることだ。挙動的問題とは、攻撃者は検出を回避しようとしている知的な集団であるため、多
