ヒストグラムを使うと意味のある情報を取り出すのが難しいような場合に真価を発揮する。

二変量の表現
二変量データとは、測定単位ごとに2 つの観測変数で構成されるデータである。二変量データの例
としては、トラフィックフローで観測されたバイト数とパケット数（2 つの量的変数の例）や、プロト
コルごとのパケット数（質的変数と量的変数の例）などがある。二変量データによく用いられるのは、
散布図（2つの量的変数の比較に用いる）、複数の箱ひげ図（量的変数と質的変数の比較に用いる）、
分割表（2つの質的変数の比較に用いる）である。

散布図
散布図は量的プロットの主力であり、2つの順序変数、間隔変数、または比率変数の関係を示す。
散布図を分析する際の課題は、ノイズ構造の特定である。散布図の一般的な特徴はクラスタ、ギャッ
プ、線形関係、外れ値である。
まず全く関連のないデータを使って散布図を調べてみよう。図10-11にノイズの多い散布図の例を
示す。この例は、2 つの一様分布の相互関係をプロットして作成している。これはあまり意味がない。
