Chapter 3
Para Dimethyl Amino Benzaldehyde (PDAB) and Para Dimethyl Amino Cinnamaldehyde (PDAC)
INTRODUCTION
Certain amines condense with various aldehydes in strongly acidic media to give products that are oxidisable to give colour. Among many, the following aldehydes are widely used. They are p-dimethyl aminobenzaldehyde, vanillin, formaldehyde, benzaldehyde, salicyaldehyde, paraldehyde, p-acetyl aminobenzaldehyde, m- and p-nitrobenzaldehyde, etc.
The reaction with aromatic amines produces Schiff bases.
