1,2-Naphtha Quinone-4-Sulphonate Sodium (NQS)

INTRODUCTION

NQS is the most widely used chromomeric agent for the estimation of a number of drugs containing 1° aromatic amine. It is a derivative of O-quinone.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

The mechanism of action of the NQS reagent involves when the NQS treated with the any amine-containing compound that will release the hydroxyl group and the sodium sulphonate group is replaced with the aromatic amine group.

The following are the list of some drugs which are analysed by using NQS:

  • Sulphadrugs
  • Succinyl sulphathiazole
  • Chloramphenicol
  • Nimesulide
  • Nifedipine
  • Nitrendipine
