Analysis of Packing Materials

INTRODUCTION

These methods are mainly based on the Indian Pharmacopoeia which states the standards for these materials.

Containers are defined as that contains the drug substance or a dosage form which is in direct contact with it.

Closures are defined as the part of the container which is intended for the closing of the container.

The containers and closures should posses the following ideal requirements:

  • It should be inert.
  • It should be non-toxic.
  • It should be stable for long storage purposes.
  • It should be designed in such a manner that the contents are readily removed from the container.
