Chapter 2
Analysis of Biological Compounds
INTRODUCTION
The term ELISA was coined by Engvall and Pearlmann in 1971. This is an analytical method which is very sensitive for the detection of very low amount of a substance. This method is mainly used in the immunology. This method is the first screening method used for the HIV which has high sensitivity. The principle is similar to the radio immuno assay (RIA) except the use of the radio label compounds. This method is mainly used to detect the antigen–antibody reactions. There are three different types of ELISA:
- Sandwich type
- Indirect type
- Competitive type
- Sandwich type: In this method, two antibodies are required. One is known as the capture antibody and the other is known as the detection ...
