Analysis of Amino, Imino and Quaternary Ammonium Compounds

INTRODUCTION

The most of the pharmaceutical agents contain the amino group. The amino containing drugs are local anaesthetics, adrenergic drugs, anti-tubercular drugs, vitamins, etc.

Based on the importance of the drugs, the following analytical methods are employed for the determination of the amino group. They are as follows:

  • IR method: This method involves the measurement and interpretation of the absorbed IR radiation by the vibrations of the amino molecule. The N=H bands are observed in the near IR from 1.49 to 1.97 μm. N–H stretching absorption band is observed at 1.538 μm.
