Preface to the Second Edition
As we look back at the preface to the rst edition of this book, we recall our optimism that
it would provide a good understanding of rst, supply chains, and second, supply chain
management. As we pointed out, adding the term management to supply chain opened up a
different world. While supply chains could be physically assembled in a straightforward
manner, managing them required skills and approaches that were not needed when busi-
nesses operated more autonomously. Building communication, collaboration, and trust into
supply chains presented new challenges, especially as supply chains became more globally ...
