it banned from the federal school lunch program (Gruley and Campbell 2012). ABC
News with Diane Sawyer covered the story, and the blogosphere became active as vari-
ous stakeholders weighed in on the product.
Within the supply chain, the impact was being felt widely. BPI, the maker of LFTB,
had to close three of its four plants and eliminate 650 jobs. Meat processor, AFA Foods,
Inc., had to le for bankruptcy as a direct result of the pink slime controversy (Gleason
and Berry, 2012).
