While Haydn was the most important figure in the early Classical period, Mozart was certainly the most significant composer of the middle Classical years.
Haydn had worked to expand the emotional ability of the repertoire while also elongating the pieces in general. While Baroque and pre-Baroque symphonies had commonly reached 10–12 minutes in length, music written in the Classical period had less limitation.
