One of the most famous tenor and baritone duets in opera, “Au fond du temple saint” (“At the back of the holy temple”), can be heard in Georges Bizet’s Les pêcheurs de perles (The Pearl Fishers). First performed in 1863 at the Théâtre-Lyrique du Châtelet in Paris, the three-act opera was written in collaboration with librettists Eugène Cormon and Michel Carré. Known for its exotic setting and music, Les pêcheurs de perles takes place on the island of Sri Lanka.
