The minuet epitomizes the elegant ballroom dance, with men in tails and women in silk gowns stepping to a triple meter. This dance originated in the French town of Poitou in the 1650s, and it was quickly included in Baroque dance suites. Starting in 1700, minuets were paired together. The first minuet was followed by the second minuet, and then the first minuet returned. If you think this looks suspiciously like a ternary form—ABA—you are correct.
