An instrument of antiquity dating back to ancient Egypt, the harp has been a beloved part of myths, legends, and daily life for 4,500 years.
Comprised of strings, a neck, and a resonator to amplify the sound, this finger-plucked chordophone differs from most stringed instruments in that the plane of the strings is perpendicular to the soundboard. Early, simple open harps with bowed or angular designs were able to accommodate a limited string tension.
