Opernhaus is the name of the theater that replaced Zurich’s Aktientheater after the latter burned down near the end of the 19th century. Originally called the Stadtheater, the venue staged spoken dramas as well as operas and orchestral works, until a separate playhouse was built in 1926, allowing the newly renamed Opernhaus to concentrate on its musical productions.
