During the early 18th century, it was typical for Baroque composers to compile instrumental concerti into groups of 6 or 12 and release them under a single title. One such group of 12, conceived by the great Italian maestro Vivaldi, was given a name that translates to The Trial of Harmony and Invention, and the first four concerti in that group of 12 combine to form the immensely popular work known as The Four Seasons.
