The goal of good human relations is not just happy employees, but happy employees who produce more. The goal is greater productivity and ultimately greater profit. It is theoretically possible that a business organization could devote so much time and money to making employees happy and comfortable that the company could go broke and out of business. Management is therefore not interested in making people happy just because happy people are nice to have around or because happy people stick with their jobs longer. Management is interested in making their employees happy because happy employees, under the right leadership, can be motivated to achieve greater productivity.
