Preface to the First Edition
In the 20-plus years that I have been teaching classes in quality methods
for engineering majors, my objective has been to provide students with the
knowledge and training that a typical quality manager would want of new
recruits in his or her department� Most quality managers would agree that
a quality engineer should have a good understanding of the important sta-
