A promising future
At the time of writing, Cloud Firestore is currently in public beta. While Firestore offers a number of promising enhancements over Datastore, it currently supports a smaller set of query functionalities. In its current state, write performance is extremely limited when compared to that of Datastore, and both write performance and consistency are not currently covered under any SLA. While still young, Firestore has a lot of potential to become a valuable tool in the broader Google Cloud ecosystem.
