A number of public images are based on proprietary third-party operating systems. Where possible, Google works the licensing cost of these operating systems into the instance-hour cost of any VMs created using them. These images include Red Hat Enterprise Linux, SUSE Linux, Windows Server, and SQL Server. Each of these operating systems carries individual costs that are applied in addition to the base running cost of a given VM.
